Through a series of trainings, the EU supports better gender equality in the police
A two-day training for trainers in the field of gender equality in police structures in BiH began in Konjic today (December 10, 2020). The training is organized within the project "Police and Respect for Human Rights in BiH", supported by the European Union. Police officials from all over the country are attending this training.
The aim of the training is to raise awareness of gender equality in police structures in BiH, with a focus on familiarizing participants with the current situation in the country on this issue. Gender issues, stereotypes and prejudices, and issues of gender discrimination will be discussed. The focus will be on domestic and international legal frameworks and existing mechanisms for achieving gender equality in BiH, as well as the mechanism for protection against discrimination. The training program was developed by the "Policewomen's Network" Association from Sarajevo, based on the good experiences of program implemented within SIPA, which are adapted for other police agencies.
The project "Police and Respect for Human Rights in BiH" is funded by the European Union, and is jointly implemented by the Center for Security Studies from Sarajevo, the "Policewomen's Network"Association and the Geneva Center for Security Sector Management (DCAF).
The project started with the realization in January this year, while the estimated time of its implementation is 20 months. The aim is to strengthen respect for human rights within police agencies and in the exercise of police powers, as well as to promote gender equality in police agencies. The goal is to educate a total of 50 people through two educations of this type.
