Strengthening the capacity of the police
The first professional training for managers on the topic "Gender equality and gender-based discrimination in police structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina"
The Agency for Education and Professional Training of Personnel (AEPTM) and the "Policewomen's Network" Association organized a workshop on "Gender equality and gender-based discrimination in police structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina", which was held in Tarcin (22-23 November, 2022).It is the first professional training of this type for management officers of state police bodies (middle and senior management staff). The training is the result of intensive cooperation between AEPTM and the PWN Association, which began with the establishment of a working group for the development of the curriculum for this professional training.
The focus of the training, which was attended by 27 representatives of BiH police agencies, was to raise awareness about gender equality and gender-based discrimination in the police structures of our country.
Through lectures and discussions, the workshop served for the analysis of the situation or identified problems in the police, discussions on gender equality, the importance of women's participation in police work, gender stereotypes and prejudices, gender based harassment and sexual harassment, informal protection mechanisms, and the obligations of institutions in preventing and suppressing gender-based discrimination.
The training was realized with the support of the IPA2 program within the European Union project for human rights and combating discrimination in our country. In the following period, it is planned to organize more trainings on this topic. It was pointed out that this training, as well as the undertaking of all future activities, will contribute to the improvement of gender equality and the suppression of gender-based discrimination with the aim of strengthening the overall capacities of the police agencies of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
