FEMALE LEADERS IN SECURITY SECTOR
Participants of Round table awarded with Certificates
Round table on the topic „Women leaders in the security sector“ was held today in Sarajevo, attended by 50 policewomen from Law enforcement agencies from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who were awarded by Certificates of participation. This is the last activity within the Project “Strengthening Capacities of Policewomen – Potential Leaders”, which was successfully implemented during the year with the support of the US Embassy.
The speakers in this event were female officers from the security and defense sector who reached the highest positions, and were willing to share their experience with policewomen from Law enforcement agencies from all levels of government in B&H, with a focus on challenges they met during their professional career and the best practices for overcoming those challenges, also giving practical examples.
Concrete subjects regarding leadership were alse covered, as different styles of management, leader’s characteristics and business communication, with the intention of empowering police women and strengthening their leadership skills.
Within planned topics, special accent was on legal clauses that foreseen that institutions should take the appropriate actions for reaching gender equality, taking into consideration that there are just 7,5% policewomen in police structures in B&H, while there are almost no women on the highest and management positions.
Over the past year, around 150 police women took part in different activities, realized within mentioned project, focused on development of leadership skills and strengthening capacities of police women, which will help them in their future professional career.
All activities were evaluated as very useful by the trainees and participants. Also, a significant increase in knowledge was recorded, which is why the Association expresses its gratitude to the US Embassy for making this project possible.
