Creating presumptions for increasing the number of women in leadership positions in the police

Creating presumptions for increasing the number of women in leadership positions in the police

Today (July 19, 2019), a two-day workshop on "Leadership Skills Development" was completed. The workshop was attended by around 30 policewomen from law enforcement agencies in B&H, who were awarded with certificates of participation. The workshop was held in Jahorina Montain and it was implemented within the project "Strengthening Capacities of Policewomen – Potential Leaders”", with the support of the US Embassy.

The workshop was rated as very useful by all participants. In addition to pointing out the usefulness of the topics covered in further work and professional advancement, the importance of networking with policewomen from a large number of police agencies at all levels in B&H, mutual acquaintance and exchange of experience, was particularly emphasized.

It was concluded that policewomen must work together to raise awareness on gender equality in B&H police structures and to overcome stereotypes and prejudices about the police profession as exclusively male, and to overcome formal and informal barriers to promotion.

At the end of the workshop, the president of the Association, Kristina Jozic, concluded that the practice showed that women are dynamic leaders in all spheres of work, that they produce change and that their participation in decision-making processes is fundamental to democratic governance. "So, when women take on leadership roles, the whole society can benefit from this, which is why it is very important to increase the number of women in senior and managerial positions in the police," Jozic said.

Within the framework of the mentioned project, “Policewomen Network” Association will implement workshops of this type  for 100 policewomen from police agencies in B&H by the end of the september, 2019.
