8. March - "Powerful in Communion, for the Future"
Women's Rights Center Zenica in cooperation with members of the "Policewomen's Network" Association from the MOI of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, and students and teachers of the Gymnasium "Edhem Mulabdic" from Maglaj organized a march "Strong in Communion, for the Future" on the occasion of Women's Day with the aim of remembering to women who have fought for women's rights over the past centuries.
Duška Andrić, a member of the Women's Rights Center Zenica, said that many women gave their lives so women could enjoy their rights today.
"Tomorrow everyone will be busy making hairstyles and carrying flowers and we decided to celebrate the 8th of March the day before, to remind why March 8 is important, that at least those who celebrate it celebrate with consciousness. For two hundred years, some women have fought for the rights of women we have today, and we take them for granted. We have to remember Clare Zetkin, Rose Luxemburg, American workers who have died claiming their rights, the messages "Bread and Roses" that just talk about women's right to work, dignity and free time that they did not have. We all have this all today and we think that this has come to us only by ourselves. In some countries women have no right to drive themselves, to leave without male escorts, to attend school, to be participants in public life. We want to raise our children in a society that will equally value men and women, where there will be no discrimination, sexual abuse of women or mobbing "Andrić said, as Anadolu Agency (AA) reports.
Policewomen Đurđica Kovač, an active member of the Association praised the cooperation with the Women's Rights Center and emphasized:"Today is the message that women should work on themselves, educate and fight for their rights".
The walk that began in front of the Shopping Center "Dzananovic" in Zenica continued on the main city streets to Alija Izetbegovic Square, along with messages of memories of the struggle for women's rights and the ending of violence against women.
