#OrangeChallenge
Policewomen planted orange flowers as a sign of solidarity with women and girls victims of violence
"Policewomen's Network" Association joined the initiative of the Institute for Youth Development KULT #OrangeChallenge on the occasion of celebrating Orange Day in June 2022, in order to send a clear message of support and encouragement to women and girls victims of violence and draw attention to the scope and importance of solving this problem. Namely, for several years in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the rest of the world, Orange Day has been celebrated every 25th of the month, as a date to raise awareness and prevent violence against women and girls.
According to the results of the research conducted by the BiH Gender Equality Agency together with the OSCE Mission, every other woman over the age of 15 in BiH has experienced some form of violence. For various cultural reasons, fear, economic dependence on the perpetrator and stigma, women and girls still find it difficult to decide to report violence, especially domestic violence, and report it when the violence becomes very pronounced and unbearable.
Recently, we have been witnessing shocking stories bravely told by women and girls who survived sexual violence and broke the silence and started a regional discussion on the topic of gender-based violence. Therefore, it is necessary that BiH society and institutions recognize and react to violence, and spread awareness of the importance of celebrating Orange Day, thereby expressing their social responsibility.
Members of the "Policewomen's Network" Association from various police bodies took part in the initiative this month and on the eve of June 25 planted orange flowers in the garden of the police body as a sign of solidarity with women and girls who are victims of violence.
We invite our collaborators and partner organizations to join this initiative
